Traverse City is the best vacation spot in all of Michigan during the summertime. There’s no debate. The mild heat, sun shining down, and a cool breeze coming from the bay make Traverse City comfortable during those typically hot summer months. When things do get too hot though, we’re lucky enough to have Grand Traverse Bay right within reach. We’re also lucky to have numerous beaches right on the shores of the Grand Traverse Bay that offer something for everybody. Family friendly, beaches for pets, and beaches for partying, Traverse City, has a beach for everyone.
Clinch Park
Located just a few blocks north of downtown Traverse City, Clinch Park is a favorite for both locals and tourists. A picnic pavilion, restrooms, and a splash pad for kids make this beach a must visit for families. When visiting Clinch Park though, plan on parking a little further away than normal. There is no parking at the park itself, but there is a pedestrian underpass along Cass Street that provides easy access to Clinch Park.
Bryant Park

Bryant Park is another great spot for families. Situated on the base of Old Mission Peninsula, the wide sandy beach at Bryant Park plays host to parents and kids all summer long. Picnic tables and grills make it a great place for afternoon barbeques. The westward facing beach also means Bryant Park is a perfect place to catch the sunset.
West End Beach
West End Beach is located next to the Open Space just a few blocks west of downtown. If you’re looking for the party, it’s happening here. Featuring multiple sand volleyball just above the mile-long beach, West End Beach is great for those looking for a good time. Boats anchored close to the shore make this a great spot for hanging out with friends and mingling with other boaters.
Traverse City State Park

Just two miles east of downtown Traverse City, the beach at the State Park stretches over a quarter mile. The beach here is great for those who are camping across the street. A pedestrian bridge makes crossing US-31 safe. Not staying at the campground? No problem. There is plenty of parking right next to the beach.
Old Mission Peninsula State Park

This park located on the tip of Old Mission Peninsula is great for those who enjoy hiking, biking, and exploring the beauty of northern Michigan. With over 40 acres of wooded trails surrounding Old Mission Peninsula Park, you and your friends, family, or canine companion will have plenty of fun hitting the trails, rock hunting on the beach, or exploring the decommissioned lighthouse at the pointe.
